Henry (Hank) Corbett, age 92 of Canton, passed away peacefully on June 11 th , 2017 with his family by his side. Hank was born on September 24 th ,1924 to Clarence (Ike) and Minnie (Schwerzler) Corbett. He was a graduate of Timken High School, Class of 1942. He attended the University of Dayton and the University of Akron. He married the love of his life, Theresa Smelko, on October 16,1954. They were lifelong residents of Canton, OH and were married for 61 years. In his youth, he was very active in the Boy Scouts, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. In his junior year of high school, he was elected to attend Buckeye Boys State. He served in the US Navy in World War II attaining the rank of Fire Control Man First Class making five war patrols on the submarine USS Plaice. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, the Submarine Combat Insignia with four stars, and five battle stars on the Asiatic Pacific Service Ribbon. He was a loyal employee of Diebold, Incorporated for 32 years and retired in 1984 as General Manager of Electronic Security Systems. He was recognized nationally for his expertise in bank security. He volunteered for the Stark Development Board as a Marketing Consultant after retirement. In 1990 he resumed a marketing role as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the W.L. Jenkins Company, retiring in 2001. He was a dedicated member of Christ the Servant Parish at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church for over 61 years. He served many years as an usher, President of the School Planning Council, and volunteered on church and school committees. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 44, McKinley Eagles, North Canton Elks, a life member of The American Society of Industrial Security and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Theresa, his parents, sister, Mary Alice Hagedorn, and brother, Edward Corbett. He is survived by his daughters: Debbie Garofalo of North Canton, OH, Diane (Chuck) Peabody of Carmel, IN, Grandchildren: Anthony (Jenna) Garofalo, Maria (Anthony) Czekaj, Andrea (Billy) Sturm, Todd Peabody, Laura (Ryan) Davis, Sarah Peabody; Great Grandchildren: Sofia Garofalo, Annie Davis, and another due in January. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Dorothy Corbett, and several nieces and nephews. Hank impacted many in his life well-lived. He was a devoted husband, father, and Papa, who loved unconditionally, and his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be forever remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, wisdom, integrity, fun-loving spirit, cherished friendships, commitment to his Catholic faith, and his waltzing with Theresa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 16 th at Christ the Servant Parish at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Lewis F. Gaetano as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Rossi Funeral Home on Thursday, June 15 th from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to Christ the Servant Parish at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church (833 39 th St. NW, Canton, OH 44709). The family would like to thank the staff at Aultman Woodlawn Rehab Center and Aultman Compassionate Care Center for their loving care.
