Ida Mae Prendes (Schwall) died February 3, 2023 peacefully in her own home surrounded by the love of her adoring family. Ida was a loving wife to her husband of 68 years, Armando (Fatty) Prendes. Ida was the devoted mother of her three sons; Stephen (Glenna), Raymond. (Nancy) and Robert (Deb). She was the admired "Abuela" to numerous grandchildren and an abundance of great-grandchildren.

Preceding Ida in death are her cherished husband Fatty, father and mother, Fred and Margaret Schwall, her brothers Kirby, and Jack Schwall and her sisters Sally Wilson and Jean Karcher. She is survived by her brother Tom Schwall.

Ida was born 95 years ago on her father's farm in Louisville, Ohio. Ida loved school and was an excellent student winning the Township Speech Contest. She graduated from East Canton High School where she was loved and respected by students and teachers alike.

On a fateful evening when Ida was 20 years old, she agreed to go to a dance with a girlfriend and there met the love of her life, a young Spaniard, Fatty, with whom she would spend 68 years of a loving marriage, and therein adopted the Spanish culture as her own, learning to speak and cook in the tradition of Northern Spain to her husband's, her children's and many a stomach's delight! Ida was a member of the Spanish Women's American club where she enjoyed the fellowship and exchange of traditional recipes. Ida and Fatty raised their young family in Canton and Louisville, Ohio. She was an avid sport fan and enjoyed watching the Guardians, the Cavs and the Browns. She retired from the Hoover Corporation after 30 years of service.

Work and caring are the two words that most aptly describe Ida Prendes. She worked tirelessly as an employee, a wife and a mother. She cared for her parents, her in-laws and her husband during times of illness. She volunteered at St. John's Good Samaritan Table soup kitchen for 32 years. She demonstrated her love and delight in others by making certain their needs were met, their favorite dish was on the dining table and their stomachs were full. She never sat down until everyone else was happy. Until her death, her question was always "what can I get you?"

And she was loved deeply!

Visitation will be held at Rossi Family Funeral Home (730 30th St-NW, Canton, Ohio 44709) on Monday February 6th from 6:00-8:00PM. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Rossi Family Funeral Home on Tuesday February 7th at 10:00AM and will be immediately followed by the burial at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
