Obituary

IRENE MARGARET (LACZO) IMELY, age 90, was called to the Lord Wednesday, March 18, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Maurice Imely. Irene was born in Pittsburgh to Hungarian immigrant parents, the late John and Helen Laczo. They lived on the north side of Pittsburgh, where she met her husband when they were just children. Irene graduated from Allegheny High and worked in the factory during World War II, while her future husband served in the U.S. Army and the European Theatre. After the war, Irene and Steve married and moved to Canton, where Steve began his career as a mason contractor and Irene served as his bookkeeper and homemaker. Irene was active in volleyball leagues, her church, the Independent Order of Foresters, worked the voting polls, canvassed for the March of Dimes, and the American Cancer Society. Both she and Steve were active bowlers, winning many league titles. Irene was known by friends and family for her eternally positive attitude, good spirit, laugh and smile, and always being more concerned about others and their welfare than her own. She was a very generous and loving individual who tried to help everyone she knew or met. She is adored and survived by two children and their families; daughter Elaine (Imely) Miller and husband Tony; and son Larry Imely, whose wife, Mary (Papatheodorou) also preceded Irene in death. Also preceded in death by her sister, Goldie Scutelis. She is survived by a loving group of grandchildren and their children: Eric and Becki Miller and their children, Grayson and Aquinna; Jonathan and Myssi (Miller) Myers and their children Bradon, Kylie, and Cassidy; Tim and Kim (Miller) Smith and their daughter, Taylor; and Laura (Imely) and Mike Dover, and their daughter, Mary. She will be deeply missed by her family and will live in their hearts forever. Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday from 4 to 7 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home in Canton. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 4120 Cleveland Avenue in Canton. Internment will be held at Sunset Hills Burial Park, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. While Irene loved flowers and plants, in lieu of them, contributions can be made in her name to the Salvation Army.
