Obituary

James E. Blackburn, age 90, of Canton passed away on June 28, 2015. He was born on September 2, 1924 in East Rochester, OH to the late Edwin A. and Bessie (Reedy) Blackburn. He is preceded in death by his first wife Pearl N. (Stout) Blackburn and his second wife Ethel M. (Irwin) Blackburn, his brothers, Molten Lambert, Joseph, Harry, Drexell Blackburn and sister Dorothy Blackburn Lake. He is survived by his two sons and spouses Kenneth J. and Elizabeth, Paul A. and Mary Blackburn of Canton, his daughter Janice Blackburn-Price of Houston, TX, four grandchildren, Sherry (Richard) King of Medina, Richard A. (Sarah) Blackburn of Bow, NH, Julia J. Blackburn of Madison Heights, MI, James Eric Blackburn of Houston, TX, great-grandchildren, Adam (Liz) King of Canton, Audrey King of Medina, Isabelle Blackburn of Bow, NH, Jaidyn Blackburn of La Porte, TX and care giver Steve St Louis of Houston, TX and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. James served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He retired from Sugardale Foods and Plain Local Schools. He served in the Boy Scouts as a leader and as a local and state representative for Local Union SERS. He aided in establishing Sugardale Credit Union and serviced on their board until 2012. He worked with Joe Caplea and Neil Baasten in the development of what is now Plain Township Diamond Community Park. He is a 33 rd Degree Mason of the William McKinley Lodge #431. He served as as Sunday School Superintendent at Richville Gospel Tabernacle. He is a member of the Church of the Savior in Canton. Also has attended Grace Community Church in Massillon. There are no calling hours as private family services have been held at Rossi Family Funeral Home. A future memorial service will be scheduled at a late date. Burial was at Sunset Hills in Canton. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Mercy Hospice of your favorite charity in his name.
