Kannam
November 1, 1929 – February 18, 2015
James George Kannam, 85, passed away on Wednesday, Feb 18, 2015 after a short illness. Jim was a 1947 graduate of Canton McKinley High School. He attended Kent State University and the University of Akron. Jim retired from Diebold Inc. in 1991 after 40 years of service. Jim loved his church. He was strong in his Orthodox faith, a hard worker and a clear thinker. Jim was a perfectionist in every way, humble and respectful. He had a gentle sense of humor and a deep devotion to his family, especially his Sadie. As she said "Jim loved everyone unconditionally and everyone loved Jim. He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. Jim was very active in many church activities, such as choir, Sunday School teacher, Middle East Dinner worker, as well as Mid-West Region church affiliations such as SOYO, St. John Divine, where he was awarded the Fr. Ellis Khouri Meritorius Award. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sadie (Ellis) Kannam, sons James (Paula), and Thomas all of Canton, one one wonderful, much loved grandson, Austin. He is also survived by a brother, George of LaCrosse, WI, and sister-in-law Jennie, also many special nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents George and Selma Kannam and a brother William. Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 5 to 8 pm at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church (1118 Cherry Ave. NE, Canton, OH 44704) and Monday morning from 10 to 11 am with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am, Rev. Fr. Michael Corbin officiating and Rev. Fr. Basil Shaheen assisting. Trisagion Services will be held on Sunday at 7:30 pm. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church.
