Obituary

Jason (Humberto) Ephraim Rivera went home to be with his Lord and Savior March 8 th , 2016. He was born January 19 th , 1951 in Cuamo, Puerto Rico and grew up in Southern California. He made a living performing as a gifted professional musician and was a recording artist back in the 1970s. His album "Jode" on Vanguard Records, recently earned a gold record. He met his wife Chery in Huntington Beach, California in 1977. She joined his band and went on tour with him. He was an incredible stage performer which many people enjoyed. They married in 1980 on Valentine's Day and their beautiful daughter, Christina, was born 5 years later. In 1989 they opened their first music store, Cool Jets Music, in Orange County, California. They continued to operate until the 90's, when Jason and Chery decided to move to Ohio where Chery was born. They brought their music store and daughter with them and settled in the Jackson Township area where they continued their performing as The Cool Jets while running their music store, Belden Village Music. They have operated the music store as a family since then. They provided musical instruction for all ages and were very service oriented. Jason gave lessons on several instruments; guitar, bass, banjo and voice. Jason and Chery were the contemporary worship directors at Church of the Lakes for more than 3 years. They wrote and recorded their first Christian music CD at that time. Since then, Jason started Ephraim Music Ministries and has written and recorded over 9 CD's inspired by The Lord. Jason, along with his wife and daughter are the inventors of Jet Fretz, a patented and redesigned guitar fret. He had an undeniable love and talent for repairing and building guitars. Jason was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in September of 2015. He went through chemotherapy and many challenges including a clinical trial to beat the cancer. He put up a valiant fight for months while being cared for at home by his wife and daughter. At the same time he kept his sense of humor and fun loving spirit. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. There is a memorial benefit being held this Sunday, March 13 th , 2016. It will be at Legends Sports Pub & Grille, 1840 Town Park Blvd., Uniontown, Ohio, 44685 beginning at 1:00pm. This will be a celebration of his life with music and entertainment. This will also be a fundraiser to help the family with funeral and burial costs. All friends and family are invited. Jason was preceded in death by his brother Eric Rivera. He is survived by his loving wife Cheryl (Griffith) Rivera, their only child Christina Rivera, mother Nereida (Rivera) Pearman, father Jesus Rivera, sister Arcadia (Rivera) Baumgartner, brothers Jesse Rivera (Kathy), Omar Rivera, Rick Rivera and many other well loved musicians, friends and family. Calling hours will be held this Monday, March 14 th from 7-9pm at Rossi Family Funeral Home, 730 30 th St. NW, Canton, Ohio 44709.
