Obituary

Jeffrey S. Thewes, 63, passed away peacefully Wednesday May 14,  2025.  A life filled with so much love.

Born February 20, 1962, in Canton, Ohio to Russell and Shirley (Thomas) Thewes.

Jeff lived each day with an unwavering commitment to everyone he loved. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Laurie (Coccoli) with whom he shared forty-two wonderful years of marriage and adventure. Along with his children, Brandon Thewes, Alyssa Augustine and son- in -law Anthony Augustine.

Jeff is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Andy Coccoli, and sister-in-law, Debbie Thewes.

He leaves behind his parents, Russell and Shirley Thewes, mother-in-law, Dianne Coccoli (Hentsch), sister and brother-in-law, Torie and Ben Utterback. His memory continues with his siblings Joyce Cunningham (Alan) and  Timothy Thewes. Along with his nieces and nephews,  Jason Cunningham, Heather Wenning (Brandon), Kelly Scaglione (Jason), Tina Overturf (Nick), Timothy Thewes (Donald), Laurel Utterback, Addyson Utterback and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Jeff attended St Joseph's and graduated from Canton Central Catholic.  At Central he quickly became friends with David DePasquale, who remains today and always his closest friend.

At the age of 23 Jeff started his first company, JuST r Snax Ltd.  The company thrived, delivering Shearer's Chips to much of Northeast Ohio.  He received numerous honors and accolades and met many wonderful friends during that journey.  Once he decided to sell his company, he realized he wasn't done creating.   In 2006 he founded Elite Sports Volleyball.  This business turned into another family, growing by the hundreds with athletes and coaches alike.  He adored watching the girls play and was proud of their accomplishments on and off the volleyball court.  Every girl held a special memory and watching them grow, thrive and start families of their own was a huge joy for him.

Jeff loved food, wine, art, and was a lifelong sports enthusiast.  Some favorite memories were combining his love of sports with his passion for travel. Sporting events like March Madness, Maui Classic, Bowl Games (cheering on his Fighting Irish & Carolina Tar Heels) and golfing incredible courses like Pebble Beach were just a few of the many adventures. Countless memories were made by traveling with friends and family.

Jeff believed in making sure the people he loved knew it and his passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.
