IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John William
Manos
April 28, 1931 – May 10, 2013
John William Manos
Age 82, passed away May 10, 2013 due to complications of leukemia, which he bravely fought for four months. He died at Aultman hospital with his beloved wife Sophie (Susie) and the rest of his family at his side. He was born on April 28, 1931 in Canton Ohio, the eldest child of Georgia and William Menounos, both of whom he cared for throughout their lives. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary, and his Mother-in-Law, Saia Beoglos. He spent nearly his entire life in love with Susie (Beoglos) Manos, and recently celebrated their 60 th Wedding Anniversary. Theirs was a "love at first sight", a love story filled with affection, passion, care, respect and togetherness. John was never shy about sharing his feelings for his one love Susie. He was a well liked and popular man, and one who brought joy to others through his sense of humor, storytelling and his caring manner. John lit up the room with his outgoing personality and charisma. John and Susie were blessed with three children, William (Lois) Manos of Canton, Connie (Gary) Glew of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, and Maria (Scott) Oster of Johns Creek, Georgia. He loved and is survived by his younger sister Kathy (Harry) Pantelas of whom he was so proud. He was completely enamored with his five granddaughters and felt blessed to have spent so much time with them throughout the years. Likewise, Lauren, Marisa and Alexa Glew as well as Madeline and Mackenzie Oster loved their times with Papou and Yia Yia. He was so proud to be their Papou, and traveled often with Susie to visit them. Family came first for John and Susie. Their children and grandchildren learned from this example and will carry forward the importance of family in the own lives. His generosity was surpassed by his caring manner, which together were surpassed by the size of his loving heart. He loved being with people and had a knack for making someone's day a bit better through a kind word, a joke or a conversation. John lived in Canton all his life and worked for 30 years as a Skilled Bearing Grinder in Department 74 at the Timken Company from which he retired. He was a graduate of Canton McKinley High School in 1948. John was an active man throughout his life and pursued many hobbies. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed bowling in the Greek League with Susie in their younger years. He was considered an outstanding pool player and enjoyed playing pool at Fiddlesticks where he had scores of friends. He was inducted into the Stark County Pool Players Hall of Fame, an honor that made him proud even though it was against his humble ways to receive such recognition. He loved to watch football (and many sports). He was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church and was an active member of the AHEPA and the seniors group. He enjoyed his church community and the friendships it enabled. John was an avid golfer who enjoyed the game throughout his life. He enjoyed his weekly league into his eighties and the friendships therein. He also loved to watch his granddaughters play golf and lacrosse. John also enjoyed card games with his friends and looked forward to the day of their weekly game as it was time well spent with his dear friends. While John fought a courageous battle for the last four months against a foe he could not beat, it is far more important that we celebrate his life and the way he lived it. His was a life well lived, and a life well loved. John Manos gave his love and care to many, and in return, received much love. While he will be missed, we ask that all celebrate him and keep his spirit alive forever. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at the Rossi Funeral Home and Wednesday from 10 to 11 am at church. Trisagion Services will be Tuesday at 7 pm followed by AHEPA services at 7:30 pm. Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 11 am at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating assisted by Rev. Dr. Daniel Rogich and Rev. Fr. C.G. Shiepis. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in John' s name may be made to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church.
