Obituary

John Papadopoulos, age 71, of North Canton, was called by God to the Kingdom of Heaven on October 21, 2023 surrounded by family and friends who loved and admired him deeply. John "Pappy" was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service.

John was a wonderful man who had a unique way of thinking and understanding the world around him. He was always happy to lend a hand, fix a problem, tell a joke, or lovingly tease someone. John's skills came from his hands and his heart, and his family and friends benefited from his knowledge and love. John is known to those closest to him for his "Johnisms:" little "life tips" he loved to share with those around him.

John was an avid boater and loved to travel with his family. In his free time, he would spend many hours with his friends gathered around his pool, where he loved to entertain and create special moments for those he cared for. John reserved his Sunday evenings for weekly card games with the Weavers (his brothers and sisters-in-law).

John was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and grew up in a close-knit Greek community, the values of which he instilled in his children. In 2017, John helped build a Trojan Horse Float for his church. The float was entered into the Hall of Fame Parade and won the Grand Prize. John was also a member of AHEPA and The Holy Trinity Senior Citizen group.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Julia Papadopoulos. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Anne (Weaver), with whom he shared the last 43 years, daughter Sydney, and son Eli who he loved deeply. John also leaves behind his sister Mary Papadopoulos, brother Tom (Mary) Papadopoulos; brothers-in-law Richard Weaver, Thomas Weaver, Pete (Deb) Weaver, Michael Weaver, Pat (Renee) Weaver, Anthony (Sue) Weaver, and sister-in-law Mary (Chris) Carsten, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many life-long friends.

All those who knew and loved John will miss his smile and contagious laugh and will mourn and remember him fondly. The family is forever grateful to the staff at the Compassionate Care Center at Woodlawn for their kindness and dedication to providing the best care and support when John and his family needed it the most.

Calling hours will be held from 11a.m. to 12 p.m., services to begin at 12 p.m. to on Thursday, October 26th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with Rev. Fr. Nicholas Halkias officiating. Interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Koraes Ladies Society at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
