John T. Schiavone, age 76 of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 with his family by his side. He was born in Canton on October 13, 1944 to the late Rocco and Pearl (Coletti) Schiavone. John was a graduate of Lehman High School Class of 1962 and Walsh College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Finance. He was a US Army Reserve veteran and led a successful career of 41 years with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.

John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol (Formet) Schiavone of Canton; children Adam (Kara) Schiavone and Jeff (Jen) Schiavone; granddaughter Alexa; sister Ann Malone; and brothers Joe (Jonanne) Schiavone and Pete Schiavone.

Family was important to John. He was as dedicated of a husband and father as anyone could possibly be. When he committed to something, he stayed with it. He was a consistent and steady provider.

John was kind, thoughtful and helpful to all. He loved his family and was proud of his two sons, what they did and was proud to be their dad. John taught them many things but mostly to "treat people the way you would want to be treated." He loved his two daughters-in-law and idolized and loved his granddaughter.

John enjoyed his 5:00 martinis and the time it made for him and his wife to connect. While he didn't like to mow the lawn or wash the car, he did like to look at the stripes in lawn and the shine on the car. In all things for John, the work was worth the reward. He enjoyed a good steak on the grill and hosting Thanksgiving for the extended family; filling the household with fun and love. He spent time the night before Thanksgiving dinner writing Grace and making sure that everyone was mentioned in prayer.

John had a good eye for photography and entered contests and exhibits. He enjoyed capturing photos of travels out west and around Ohio. There wasn't a barn or buggy in Amish Country that escaped his camera lens. He loved the simplicity of the land and people. In retirement John enjoyed antiquing with his wife and spending hours together looking for treasures- everything from clocks to scales. While he enjoyed the hunt for the deal, a big part of antiquing was the time in made for him and his wife to be together. John retired to winemaking and through this hobby he invented 'The Label Wizard', made in Amish Country; he was an inventor with an approved patent - No more crooked labels on wine bottles. But like photography and antiquing, wine making, and the Label Wizard was a way for John to make time with others, in this case his brothers.

Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. at The Basilica of St. John the Baptist, with the Very Rev. John E. Sheridan, STL Rector officiating. Interment to follow at Northlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
