Obituary

John "Jack" Thomas Batchelder 5/10/1990 – 5/25/2023 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, Jack Batchelder, who went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 25, 2023. Jack was born May 10, 1990, in Cincinnati, Ohio to James and Jacquie Batchelder. He lived most of his life in Canton, OH, attending St. Michael School, graduating in 2008 from Jackson High School. He attended Ohio University and Stark State College where he completed an auto technology certificate and was on the President's list. Jack was a fun-loving guy who had a lot of energy and was passionate about many things. He was a natural athlete, playing basketball and football in high school. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes, fishing on Lake Erie, and rescuing stray dogs. Art and music were a part of his daily life. Jack loved work and cars. He recently worked at Katz Tires for two years, where he was a member of the Katz family. Thank you to Saban, James, and Marissa at Katz for their special interest in Jack and his recovery. Most recently, he was a technician at Progressive Dodge Chrysler Jeep and Ram. Jack took great pride in his work. His bosses at Progressive and Katz commended his ability to get it done. Jack had strong family ties. He was loved. He looked up to his older brothers Paul and Will and was so proud of younger brother Ross for his service to our country in the Marine Corp. Jack was glad when sister-in-law Jenny joined the family, and especially happy to be an uncle to Evie and Cole. Jack will be remembered for his good heart and big sense of humor. He will never be forgotten. In addition to his parents, Jack will be deeply missed by his family, brothers Paul (Jenny), Will, and Ross, niece Evie and nephew Cole; grandparents Paul and Barbara Batchelder, and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Cousins Katey Blauvelt and Molly Mundo were like sisters to him. Jack was predeceased by his grandparents James and Mickey Foos, and Harriett Foos and Harry Kelly. Jack's family will receive family and friends on July 1, 2023, at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089 with his Celebration of Life Mass to start at 10:30 am. Addiction is a humbling disease. It is not a choice. Jack thought he could fight his addiction on his own. If you, or someone you know is battling addiction, we encourage you to keep trying. Do not let isolation get in the way of finding and maintaining recovery. Thank you to the many people who were there for Jack over the years. Special thanks to Dr. James Johns, dear friend and devoted family doctor, who went above and beyond providing the best tender loving care for Jack over the years.
