John Wayne Yekel Sr, age 78, died Thursday February 9 ^th at the Kobacker Hospice Center in Columbus OH. John was born and raised in Uniontown, PA and later moved to Canton, OH. John is survived by sister Sharon Blair of Uniontown PA; 3 children; John Jr of Lewis Center, OH (wife Kimberly), Rich of San Antonio, TX (wife Judy) and daughter Michele; grandchildren: Marshall, Walker, Jonah, Bailey, Alex and great-granddaughter Roselie. John was preceded in death by 4 brothers. John was blessed with many extended family members and friends who all enjoyed his outgoing spirit and love for life! John was a proud to serve his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp. At the age of 19, John began a successful career at Timken Steel and retired after 30+ years. John could often be found enjoying a day of golfing, fishing or hunting and was always ready to share a story or two about his success of the day! Sports were a big part of John's life as he could be found cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Pirates (yes you can detect a trend!) and the Ohio State Buckeyes!! Friends and family may join in celebrating John's life and to come share a favorite memory on Wednesday, Feb 14th at the Rossi Family Funeral Home in Canton during the hours of 2:30-4:30 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m.. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb 15 ^th with a receiving hour from 10:00-11:00 a.m.; services will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
