Joseph A. Palombo, Sr., 88, of Canton, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025. Born and raised in Canton to the late Dominick and Mary (Bartoloni) Palombo, Joe lived a life dedicated to family, faith, and community.
A proud 1954 graduate of McKinley High School, Joe was a gifted athlete whose passion for sports earned him induction into the Stark County Amateur Sports Hall of Fame for Slo-Pitch Softball and Fumbleball. His achievements left an enduring legacy in the local sports community, both on the field as a player and an umpire.
Joe devoted 58 years to the Canton City School System, where he served with unwavering dedication. What he loved most about his "Job" was ushering at the Field House and working the press box. Joe became a beloved fixture, offering steadfast support and encouragement to athletes, coaches, and visitors alike. His presence was a genuine "statue" of warmth for generations.
A man of deep faith, Joe was a devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish at St. Anthony Church, where his spirituality guided him throughout his life.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary (Peterson) Palombo, who recently passed away in September. His brother Frank (Sue) Palombo; and sister Jackie (Pipe) Pipero. He is survived by his children, Joseph A. Palombo Jr. and Heidi (Chad) Budd, as well as his brother Dominick (Barb) Palombo. Grandchildren, Cody and Alexis Budd, Nikko (Annika) Palombo and Izzy Palombo. Great Grandchild, Jamie Palombo.
Joe will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to the community, and his invaluable presence and knowledge at the Field House, press box, and beyond. His contributions left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish at St. Anthony Church at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Melscheimer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to made made to St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
