Joe "JP" Pujazon, age 88 of Canton, died Friday, March 6, 2015. He was born March 16, 1926, in Canton, to Juan and Adelaida (Justo) Pujazon. He was a 1945 graduate of Canton McKinley High School. While at McKinley, he excelled in their sports programs; he was a member of the basketball and football teams. He was named All Ohio in 1943 and 1944 for football , honored to be co-captain for the team during the 100 th anniversary of the McKinley-Massillon game, was inducted into the McKinley HOF in 1984, and into the Stark County High School Football HOF in 2005. Following high school, he joined the Navy. Upon his return home, he became active in sports again. He was also inducted into the Greater Canton Old Timers Fast Pitch Association HOF in 1981. He worked for the City of Canton Fire Department; retiring in May of 1984. He had many things he loved; family visits, reunions, the annual Spanish Picnic, sports, cooking, and socializing with his many friends that he considered family. He enjoyed golfing at Skyland Pines, golfing with his nephews in their annual OSU/Michigan golf rivalry, and following Canton McKinley and OSU football. He was a member of the Spanish-American Men's Club, the VFW, and had played in many golf, bowling, and soft-ball leagues over the years. Joe is survived by his beloved wife Katherine "Kay" (Bawn) of 64 years, also by his children Kathy (Bill) Meers, Maria (Jim) Thompson, grandchildren Dan and Niki Meers, and Hannah Thompson. He is also survived by his siblings whom he loved with all his heart. Antonia Swank, Mercedes Ruiz, Beatrice (Joe) Morales, Florencio (Helen) Pujazon, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and in-laws John (Rosemary) Pujazon, Rosie (John) Markley, Ross Swank, Jose Ruiz, Paul Kenyon, nephew J.J. Morales, and great-niece Suzanne Deerfield. A "Last Alarm" service will be conducted by the Canton Fire Department at 4:45 p.m., prior to calling hours; all are welcome. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m at the Rossi Family Funeral Home, and on Friday one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service. Interment will be held at North Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spanish-American Women's Club Scholarship Fund, 1956 Opal St. Louisville, Ohio 44641.
