Joseph P. Silla, age 89 of Canton, passed away early Saturday morning after a brief illness. Born in Helen, WV on December 6, 1927. His parents were the late Leo and Catina Fernandez. Joseph was a Canton McKinley High School graduate. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and also a retired employee of Dyneer Corporation, where he was a maintenance superintendent for over 40 years. They called him "Spaghetti Papa," because he enjoyed making spaghetti and meatballs for his family every Sunday. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary; three brothers Sam Silla, John Fariani, and Manuel Fernandez. Joseph is survived by his children Rosie (Tony) Perez, Frank (Bonnie) Silla, Joe (Mary Lou) Silla, and Julie (Joe) Hohler; brothers Tony Fernandez and Nick (Marian) Fernandez; and sisters-in-law Isa Fernandez and Virginia Monteleone. Also survived by grandchildren Nicole (Dean) Rembielak, Tony (Kelly) Perez, Frank (Rebekah) Silla, Matthew (Stefania) Silla, Angela (Scott) Lichko, Theresa (Jared) Singer, JoMarie Silla, Tana (Matt) Pflaum, Traci Hohler, and Joey Hohler; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to send a thank you to Joseph's special friend, Joanne Hufler. Family and friends will be received Tuesday evening at the Rossi Family Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m., and also Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Fr. Robert Kaylor as celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
