IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Juanita "Katherine"
(Zeen) Shaheen
April 18, 1924 – July 8, 2024
Juanita "Katherine" (Zeen) Shaheen, age 100 of Canton, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024. Katherine was born in Canton, Ohio on April 18, 1924, to the late Albert S. and Norma (Kouri) Zeen. She will always be remembered for her wisdom, strength, generosity and unwavering love for her family and friends. She befriended everyone upon meeting them and always shared stories and advice.
Katherine grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where she graduated from Parma Schaaf High School in 1942. She worked alongside her father and helped operate their family grocery store from the early age of 14. She moved to Canton, Ohio in 1949 after marrying the love of her life, George "Gige" Shaheen.
Katherine was a devout Christian and lifelong parishioner of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. She was a member of the Ladies of St. George, the Crusaders Club and Alpha Tau Epsilon.
Katherine was a dedicated daughter and caregiver to her parents for many years. Her greatest joy was raising her three daughters. She was an excellent cook and loved gathering her family together for Sunday dinners. Katherine loved to write poems and stories as well as play cards and the lottery. Jigsaw puzzles were also a hobby and became a group effort as she brought her family together to participate.
She was preceded in death by her husband George K. Shaheen, son-in-law John Vega, and brother Samuel Zeen. Katherine is survived by her daughters Norma Vega, Georganne (James) Martin, Sonia (David) Eisenbrei, grandchildren Tricia Vega (fiancé Anthony Bompiedi), Jonathan (Shawnda) Vega, Daniel (Carlie) Eisenbrei, Laura (Adam) Oakerson, great-grandchildren Alexander Vega, George Eisenbrei, Olivia Oakerson, sister and best friend Sonia Zeen, sister-in-law Joan Shaheen, and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Aultman Hospice doctors, nurses and staff. Gratitude is also extended to Helping Hands caregivers, especially Trudy, Ila and Sara who she considered friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church at 12 noon with visitation one hour prior in the Church (1118 Cherry Avenue NE, Canton, Ohio 44704). The Very Rev. Fr. Michael Corbin and The Very Rev. Fr. Basil Shaheen will be officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church.
"May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind always be at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand."
