IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julia (Siminges)
Papadopoulos
May 16, 1917 – March 10, 2014
Julia Papadopoulos, age 96, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2014. She was born in Mason City, Iowa, on May 16, 1917, to Dimitri and Katerina Siminges of Evia, Greece. When she was five, her father and mother moved the family of five children (which later grew to include twelve children), back to Greece where she was raised. Julia returned to Canton, Ohio, following the footsteps of her younger brother Konstantinos Siminges. In 1949 Julia married Elias Papadopoulos and began raising a family. Preceded in death by her husband Elias in 1999, after 51 years of marriage, she is survived by her children Mary Papadopoulos; John (Anne) Papadopoulos; Tom (Mary) Papadopoulos; grandchildren Nicole, Andrew, Sydney, and Eli Papadopoulos; step-grandchildren Thomas and Mark Helmick and great-grandson Michael Papadopoulos. Julia always looked forward to having grandchildren with excitement and high anticipation. She is also survived by her brother Konstantinos Siminges and sister-in-law Diane both of Canton, and siblings Evangelia, Eleni, Alexandra, and John of Greece. Julia was a lifelong devoted practicing Greek Orthodox Christian and member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Her family and friends remember her as a warm, loving, sweet, gentle, devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, step-grandmother, great grandmother and friend, who would do anything she could for them. She cooked delicious Greek food, including thiples peshia, apple cake, and pies. She had a garden and enjoyed canning peppers, tomatoes; sewed and tirelessly took care of every household detail. Julia was a member of the Koraes Ladies Society and volunteered at Holy Trinity's yearly Grecian Festival. She worked for 20 years and retired from Spilios Candy Company in 1986. We give special thanks to St. Luke's staff, especially Joann, for providing excellent care of our mother. Thank you to Father Dan and the Holy Trinity Ministries who frequently visited her. Calling hours will be at Rossi Funeral Home on Thursday 6-8 pm with the Trisagion at 7. Funeral services on Friday will be at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 11 am with a viewing one hour before. Officiating Rev. Dr. Daniel and Deacon Kerick Shiepis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Koraes Ladies Society, c/o Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4705 Fairhaven NW, Canton, Ohio 44709. May her memory be eternal.
