Obituary

Konstantinon "Gus" Siminges, age 93, passed away on December 12, 2014. He was born in Mason City, Iowa, on May 16, 1921, to Dimitri and Katerina Siminges of Evia, Greece. Although, born in Iowa, Gus moved to Greece at the age of 1 and grew up in the village of Kremasto, in Greece with his 11 siblings. Gus moved to Canton Ohio in 1947 where he made his home. He was soon followed by his sister Julia Papadopoulos. On January 14, 1951, Gus married Diane (Gaitanos) Siminges, together they celebrated nearly 64 years of marriage. Gus was a loving husband and uncle, he was devoted to both his loving wife Diane and their nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings Evangelia, Eleni, Alexandra, and John of Greece and niece Mary Papadopoulos, nephews, John and Tom Papadopoulos and their families, nieces, Kathy Porter and Kathy Koufos along with many nieces and nephews in Greece. Gus was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Julia Papadopoulos, and brothers, Taso, Nick and Andrew Siminges. Gus was employed by the Ford Motor Company, retiring after 34 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where he faithfully participated in the Divine Liturgy and remained a good steward throughout his life. He was always thankful to all that God provided to him throughout his life. He was also a proud member of AHEPA and enjoyed going to their gatherings. In his early years, he was an avid hunter. After retirement, one of his favorite outings was breakfast with his close friends, Ted Glaros, Larry Wallace and Anthony Zorbas, who he considered "brothers" at Variety Restaurant. He made multiple trips to Greece with his wife and later with Anthony Zorbas to see the "old country". Gus enjoyed going to the Greek coffee house, where he would read the Greek newspaper and have his Greek coffee and loved visiting the stock exchange. Gus was a loving and caring husband, brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him but will be reunited with his parents and siblings who preceded him. Calling hours will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Officiating will be Father Daniel Rogich and Deacon Kerick Shiepis. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church or the Koraes Ladies Society, c/o Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4705 Fairhaven NW, Canton Ohio 44709.
