IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence E.
Williams, Jr.
October 28, 1938 – January 23, 2025
Lawrence E. Williams Jr., 86, of Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025. He was born October 28, 1938, in Canton, Ohio, to L.E. Williams Sr. and Elizabeth Faye (Jones). His mother's passing shortly after his birth led him to be lovingly raised by his paternal grandparents, Anthony and Mary (Popney) Nickoliou on their farms in Fertigs, PA, and later Louisville, OH. His dedication to hard work began at an early age working on his grandparents' farm. After graduating from Marlboro High School in 1956, he embarked on a successful career at the Goodyear Store in Canton, starting part-time as a teenager and eventually becoming a commercial truck tire salesman. After a distinguished 30-year career at Goodyear, Larry's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish L&C Tire Sales, Inc., in Canton, where he continued to serve his community for another 27 years before retiring in 2014. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Carol Rose (Baughman) with whom he shared 63 beautiful years of marriage. Proceeding their honeymoon, they settled down in Hartville, OH to begin their family. Soon after, he served honorably in the Ohio Army National Guard. In 2006, he and his wife took a trip of a lifetime to South Africa. The experience of going on Safari left such a lasting impression on him that he spoke of it with passion and excitement for years. Larry's life was shaped by unwavering family ties and a deep appreciation for simple joys. His passions and zest for life were as varied and rich as his friendships. He found immense satisfaction in hunting & fishing, woodworking, playing gin, gardening, canning, and visiting the casino. He loved canning peppers (hundreds of bushels over the years) for eagerly awaiting friends and family. He cultivated a diverse and loyal circle of friends, many forged through his membership in a long-standing Monday Night Football Club and his Thursday Breakfast Club. He especially looked forward to summers at Atwood Lake and hunting trips to Marietta. His love also extended to his canine companions: Teddy, Rosie, and Kaya with whom he shared a special bond. Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Rose, devoted son, John, sisters Marilyn Malinowski and Karol (Scott) Marino, granddaughters Jessica (Steven) Spencer and Olivia Highsmith, great-grandchildren Ryder Highsmith and Kennedi & Emma Spencer, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Lee, and his sister, Karen Alonso. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. As per Larry's request, there will be no services; however, to honor his life, love for animals, and spirit of generosity donations may be made in Larry's name to the Stark County Humane Society.
