Obituary

Lazer J. Tarzan Sr. 96 passed away peacefully December 11,2017 one week short of his 97 th birthday. He was the son of Greek immigrants John and Elpiniki Tarzan. After graduating from Timken High school, Lazer joined the Navy and spent his enlistment aboard the USS Russell 414, as a radioman. During this time they fought battles in the Atlantic and Pacific theatre where they were awarded 16 Battle Stars, it was during this period of his life, he would tell us, this is where he became a man. After the war he returned to Canton learned linotype and worked as a type setter for the Canton Repository. He met and married Elizabeth Manos and they started on their 71 year journey together. Following his dreams they moved to Poway, California in the mid 1950's, where he worked for the San Diego Tribune and worked on his craft of portrait painting. He loved all things western, from riding horses on the beach, the desert, or a short trip to Mexico for haircuts and a bull fight. He would leave us for a time to go and study portrait painting in New York where he mastered his craft, while working for the New York Times. We returned to Canton where he again worked for the Repository and opened Creative Framing in 1968, he pursued the art of stone carving and chain saw carving, in addition to building homes in his early years. He and Liz worked to build a forty-five year business that came to be known as Lazar's Art Gallery and Creative Framing. Our Dad was a creative, free spirit and if you ever met him you would remember his joy, his passion for life and his compassion for all living things. Lazer is survived by his son John Tarzan, daughter Nancy Tarzan and her children Alysha (Lincoln} Troyer, Trevor (Stefanie) Gerry and their son Leland, and son Lazar (Mary Ann) Tarzan and their son Brian (Lauren) Schweizer and their daughters Leah and Taylor. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Elizabeth who died November 5, 2017, brother Gus and Sister Sofia. The Family would like to thank all the wonderful care givers that our parents had over the last several years and a special thanks to Mercy Hospice for the kindness and care they gave both of our parents. In lieu of flowers, please engage in a random act of kindness, for someone in need or donate to a family through the Salvation Army so they might have a Merry Christmas. Our Dad believed it was important to pay it forward, thank you for keeping his legacy alive. A private Funeral will be held at Rossi Funeral Home.
