Louis N. Shaheen, age 69 of Canton, passed away Friday morning. Born in Arne, Syria to the late Naseeb G. and Jana (Saliba) Shaheen, and preceded in death by sisters Julia Esber and Nazha Ataya. He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. Louis was a 1966 graduate of McKinley High School. He attended Kent State University and then graduated from John Carroll University with an advanced degree. He taught for many years in the Canton City School system then at Malone University and Stark State College. He is survived by Hanan Shaheen, his wife of 20 years, sons Louis and Alex Shaheen, brother George (Rawna) Shaheen, sisters Shafeeka Shaheen, Nahe Shaheen, brother-in-law Philip Ataya, sister-in-law Barbara (Diab) Almahana and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thanks to friends, especially Larry and Janice Fernandez. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00pm and Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00am at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. Trisagion service will be Tuesday at 6:30pm. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11:00am with Rev. Fr. Michael Corbin officiating, assisted by Rev. Fr. Basil Shaheen and Rev. Fr. John Alassaf. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
