Maria Domenica Rinaldi, age 92, of Canton, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning. She was born in Bonefro (Campobasso), Italy, on December 5, 1922. Maria immigrated along with her two sons Giuseppe and Luigi to the United States in 1962, to rejoin her husband Celestino who had immigrated six years earlier. She was a self-employed seamstress for most of her life. Maria was a woman of strong faith and was a member of the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist. She adored and cherished her only grandchild Gianmarco -- he was the light of her life! Maria loved to cook for her family, and she was passionate about her roses and gardening. Maria was an avid bocci player. She enjoyed the game well into her eighties, winning many trophies over the years. Maria was a member of the Sons of Italy Club of Canton and the Le Radici Italian Community of Akron. She loved to dance, sing and celebrate all that life had to offer! Maria is preceded in death by her mother Maria Nicola Santoianni, father Luigi Santoianni, husband Celestino Rinaldi and her beloved son Joseph (Giuseppe) Rinaldi. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Louis (Luigi) and Sherry Rinaldi of Canton, and grandson Gianmarco Rinaldi. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews in Montreal (Québec, Canada) and Italy. Maria's family would like to thank the staff of Allay Senior Care of Meyers Lake for the kind and compassionate care she received during the last several months of her life. Thanks also are extended to the nursing staff at Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice for the gentle care she was given for her final days here on this earth. Family and friends will be received on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be sung on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist with Reverend Ronald M. Klingler, Rector as celebrant. Entombment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park Mausoleum.
