IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marie E.
(Palombo) Sirpilla
March 15, 1926 – June 8, 2017
Marie E. (Palombo) Sirpilla, 91, died on June 8, 2017 at her Canton home. Marie was born in Sora, Italy on March 15, 1926. She came to the United States in 1935 with her family. Their family settled in Canton after a brief stay with family in Hartville. She went to Elementary School at St. Mary's and High School at Timken, graduating in the class of 1945 in retail. She met her husband of 67 years, Robert, while working at Canton City Lumber. They reared four children. She supported her husband in his career as a builder; later becoming a Real Estate Agent when the children were grown. She enjoyed working and in 2001 began working part time at Macy's in the Handbag Dept. until age 85. She was an avid reader, loved nature, animals, music, family photographer; was an excellent cook and homemaker. Marie was a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, who gave comforting hugs, humor and wit, and humility and unwavering love. She loved visiting with friends and family and always offered sincere counsel and aid, even during her later struggles with dementia. She would tell us often in her later years of what her mother said to her as a child whenever she would complain, "Kneel down and thank God for your blessings." She was always appreciative and joyful. Marie was a parishioner for over 60 years at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Marie is survived by her children—Cindy (Jim) Barr of Maryland, Linda (Kevin) Kopan of Canton, Albert of Canton, and Barbara (Richard) Tschudy of New Philadelphia as well as by eight grandchildren—James, Matthew and Sarah Barr; Nathan Kopan; Annie Landry; Julia Wright; and Jonathan and Elias Tschudy—nine great-grandchildren and dozens of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Marie is survived by her sister-in-laws Doris Giampaoli of Virginia, Marie (Jim) Sirpilla of Florida and Nickie (Gene) Palombo; special cousin, Liz Walker and dear friend, Andy Kopan of Ohio; many close cousins in Toronto, Canada and Sora, Italy. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob, by her parents, Modesto and Julia (Tersigni) Palombo, her three brothers, Gene, Tony and Fred Palombo, her sisters in law, Beverly (Tony) Palombo, and Gloria (Gene) Palombo. The family will receive visitors at Rossi Funeral Home on Wednesday June 14, 2017 from 5-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 10:00 a.m. at Christ the Servant Parish at Our Lady of Peace Church with Msgr. Gaetano officiating. Internment will be at Northlawn Cemetery. The family would like to thank their close relatives, friends and neighbors for their love and support. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made on Marie's behalf to the Alzheimer's Association.
