IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marie (Mitri)
Shaheen
May 28, 1930 – December 14, 2021
MARIE (MITRI) SHAHEEN
Marie M Shaheen 91 passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 14th 2021.
Marie was born in Hasbaya, Lebanon on May 28th 1930 to George and Emilee Mitri. She immigrated to the US in 1949 after marrying her husband of 53 years Shafeek. Marie came to this country not speaking any English and adapted right away. She raised a family of 4 kids and took care of a household that included her in-laws and sister-in-law as well. She was famous for her middle eastern cooking, her homemade pita bread and people still rave about her fried chicken to this day. She had an unwavering love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a hand in raising and taking care of each of them, and they were truly the light of her life.
Marie was proceeded in death by her husband Shafeek Shaheen Sr, son Alex Shaheen, brothers George Mitri, Soujhail Mitri and Najib Mitri. She is survived by her children, Nina (Labib) El-Bardawil, Mona Shaheen, Shafeek (Patricia) Shaheen Jr. and Daughter-in-law Acia Shaheen. Grandchildren Walid (Brittany) Bardawil, Badre (Megan) Bardawil, Alysse (Phil) Giallourakis, Alexander (Kaylah) Shaheen, and Roman G. Shaheen. And, 8 great grandchildren. Sisters-in-law, Wedad Shaheen of Florida, Julia and Lyla Mitri of Lebanon and numerous nieces and nephews across many continents. The family is forever grateful to Dr. Louis Shaheen for the years of care and compassion he provided our mother.
Family and friends will be received Saturday, December 18th at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church from 10am – 11am. Funeral service will follow with the Very Rev.
