Mary Jean (Highland) Dawson, 88, of Louisville, passed away peacefully, with her son and grandchildren by her side, on Monday, December 31, 2018. Mary Jean was born on March 29, 1930, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the daughter of Harry and Ruth Highland. She married Emril Dawson on February 17, 1951, and they eventually settled in Louisville, Ohio. Mary Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary and Emril enjoyed traveling to Florida during the wintertime in their motorhome for 20 years after retiring from Diebold, and she always loved spending time with family and shopping with the girls. Mary Jean is survived by her loving son, Mike Dawson; 2 grandchildren Stephanie (Jesse) Iverson, and Laura (Brian) Steenrod; 4 great-grandchildren, Jenna, Evan, Ellie, and Leah; sister Lois Thompson; brother Walter Highland; numerous devoted nieces and nephews; and many loving neighbors whom she and Emril adored. Mary Jean is preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, 2 sisters, 4 brothers, and daughter-in-law. Special thanks to the caring staff at Green Meadows Health and Wellness Center in Louisville, and Crossroads Hospice. Per Mary Jean's wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no calling hours.
