Mary Hinkel, age 86, of Canton, passed away Friday, April 11, 2025, She was born June 22, 1938, in Canton, a daughter of the late Despina Lyras. Mary was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln High School. She was a lifetime member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, Silver Liners, and Philoptochos Society. Mary was happiest when she was surrounded by family. Her deep love for them, along with her passion for music and dancing, were her greatest joys. She will be remembered for her spunk, light-hearted nature, her delicious baklava, and her heart for serving others.

Preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hinkel, and her brother George Lyras. Survived by three daughters, Elaine Oliver, Sherri George, and Stefanie Libertore; eight grandchildren, Jorden Oliver, Alexis (Colton) Garrett, Jaret (Jackie) Oliver, Nicholas (Kennedi) George, Mikayla (Andre Sayoc) George, Emma George, Isabella Libertore, and Luke Libertore; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Linda Lyras; niece Gina Schirato; a beloved aunt Mary Stavrakis; and numerous cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff of Crossroads Hospice for the care they gave Mary.

Family and friends will be received at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the church at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment to follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
