IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary (Eremita)
Mattachione
March 28, 1917 – April 25, 2017
Mary Eremita Mattachione 1917-2017. Age 100, was born on March 28, 1917 in Canton, Ohio. Her parents were Italian immigrants, Giovanina and Giovanni Eremita. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joe "Peppy" Mattachione, daughter, Marlene Mattachione Capuano, brothers Dominik Eremita and Mike Eremita, beloved sister-in-law Connie Mattachione, bother-in-laws Pat (Doris) Mattachione, Norman "Monday" Mattachione and Frank Mattachione. Mary is survived by her son, Louie Mattachione (Frank Trace) of Perry Township, grandchildren Vince Capuano of Boston, Ralph "Dude" (Sophia) Capuano and John (Annette) Capuano of Perry Township. In addition she leaves behind great grandchildren Anthony, Aly, Joe, Ana, Katie, Vincie, Alex and Torie Capuano. Her pride was never contained as she spoke and boasted of her family. Mary was the most giving, generous and loving head of the family. She was the boss, the "padrone" and everyone knew and accepted that as fact. She gave her advice and feelings (requested or not). She was a straight talker. She was so very proud of her Italian Heritage. She spoke fluent Italian and taught the language to her son. She was a great cook, preparing meals for every holiday and family gathering. "Hai mangiato?" - "Did you eat?" was her way of greeting family/friends as they entered her home. She enjoyed playing pinochle and bid-500 with friends and family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Many people remember her "marathon garage sales" where she loved meeting people giving them coffee and pepper/egg sandwiches during their "gab sessions". Her Garage Sales became a summer event. For the past 5 years she was a victim of a stroke and the beginnings of Alzheimer's. As we visited mom every other day we saw that she was receiving the greatest of care at Altercare of Nobles Pond. Special thanks to Brenda Pedro as well as caregivers Cindy, Denise, Megan, Rachel, Michelle, Shirley and the entire staff at the Pond. In her last couple of days, Cross Roads Hospice became great comforters for both mom and her family. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28nd at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church (4940 Tuscarawas Street West in Perry Twp.), with Father Dave Weikart as celebrant. Family will receive friends from 9 – 10 a.m. prior to the Holy Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Mary Mattachione to St Joan of Arc Parish or to the Perry High School Career & Wellness Project (4201 – 13 th St SW – Massillon, Ohio 44646).
