Mary R. Gilmore (Popo) age 88 of Canton passed away Saturday evening in Mercy Medical Center after a sudden illness. Mary was born in Canton on August 27, 1924 to the late Biagio and Anna Popo. Mary was a life long member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish. Through the Community League of Stark County, Mary was a foster parent to fifteen children for many years. In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by her husband Darold in 2009; one brother Leo Popo and two sisters Yolanda DeSantis, Anna Amos and brother-in-law Ed DeSantis. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Darene and Jerry Jordan, son Robert Gilmore all of Canton, brothers and sisters-in-law Vince and Evelyn Popo, Tony and Barbara Popo all of New Jersey, four grandchildren Gregory Gilmore, Heather Foss (Brian), Blaise Clark (Mindi), Christopher Clark, eight great-grandchildren Brandon, Macey, Hannah, Alli, Alexis Rose, Shaelyn, Hunter, Khendal, sister-in-law Mary Popo of Canton and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm at the Rossi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.  The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Medical Center ICU and CCU for their compassionate care.
