Mary S. (Penny) Phillips, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, August 7, 2016 after a long illness. She was born to the late Jasper (Hap) and Virginia Powell of West Lafayette, OH on August 21, 1946. Penny married Ken Phillips on June 19, 1971 and they were inseparable; rarely would you see one without the other. She was a resident of Canton, Ohio for almost 40 years and previously lived in Mansfield, OH and Scottsdale, AZ. Penny and Ken co-owned Phillips Insurance Agency, of Canton, for over 30 years. She and Ken also owned several video stores and other businesses over their long marriage. Penny greatly enjoyed crafts which included crocheting, painting, ceramics, and many other hobbies that allowed her to express her creativity. She also loved gardening, landscaping, and being surrounded by her flowers and plants in the garden. She had a special love of animals – especially her many dogs over the years. Penny was preceded in death by her son George Phillips in 1990, whom she is now reunited with in God's Kingdom. Penny is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Ken Phillips, four children; Shelly (Henry) Monti of Waveland, MS, Terry Thornsley of Canton, OH, Judy (William) Jones of Canal Fulton, OH, and Jim (Brenda) Phillips of Scottsdale, AZ. Penny is also survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren – whom she greatly adored – and brother William Powell of Sullivan, IN, and sister Barbara Powell of West Lafayette, OH. We would like to thank Aultman Hospice for the wonderful care and support they provided to the entire family over the last several weeks. Arrangements were made by Rossi Family Funeral Home, and interment will be at Forest Fill Cemetery. Per Penny's wishes, there will be no services.
