Obituary

Michael Joseph Huth, 66, devoted husband, dad, Pops, brother and friend, died Sunday, April 12, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born in Canton on June 3, 1959 to the late Eugene and Mary Lou (Toifel) Huth, Mike graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School (1977) and the University of Notre Dame (1981 - Go Irish). He returned to Canton to work for Merrill Lynch, where he was a financial advisor for more than 40 years, helping clients to not just manage their money, but achieve their life goals.

Working in downtown Canton, he met Sherry Buonaspina. They married on Nov. 16, 1985, had two sons, Alex and David, and built a happy life together for 40 years, granting Mike, lover of pizza, wine and limoncello, the Italian heritage he always secretly wanted.

Mike was the ultimate people person. He could barely leave the house without running into someone he knew. He was a member of the Notre Dame Club and the Red Cross Board, served on the finance committee at St. Paul Catholic Parish and volunteered as a driver for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement. But his most important work was his family. His sons cannot recall their dad missing a single one of their sports games, not because he cared if they won or lost. He just wanted to be there.

He was funny, easy to talk to and never hesitated to share his opinion. He was tender, strong and true. He liked to say he had “one job, one wife” his whole life. He loved gadgets and had no shortage of hobbies: gardening, cooking, making soap, watching the Guardians and Notre Dame football. He was smoking meats and baking his own bread long before it was cool. He was an optimist and rarely complained. Whenever anything good happened to him, he’d say: “It doesn’t suck to be Mike Huth.” It didn’t suck to know Mike Huth, either.

You can honor Mike by not delaying small joys. Start the day with a full breakfast. Go on the vacation. Make the tie-dye shirt. Eat the Bittner.

Mike is survived by his wife Sherry Huth; sons Alex Huth (Sarah Mervosh) of New York City and David Huth (fiancée Aubrey Dempsey) of Cleveland; grandsons Sorin and Clark Huth; sisters Meg Skorepa (Craig), Karin Huth, Kathi Huth, Chris Hetrick (Dan) and Barb Huth; brother-in-law Robert Buonaspina (Barb); and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Rossi Family Funeral Home in Canton on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Paul Catholic Parish in North Canton on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 10 a.m. Interment at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
