Michael S. Rogers 1955-2017
" Remember kid, there's heroes and there's legends. Heroes get remembered, but Legends never die." -The Sandlot .
Our own personal legend, Michael S. Rogers age 62 of Louisville, went to heaven on Saturday August 26, 2017. He was born August 12, 1955 in Alliance, Ohio to Virginia (Sas) Rogers and the late Victor Rogers. Michael was a 1973 graduate of Alliance High School and a 1977 graduate of Mount Union College.
Mike had many achievements and passions, but he was most proud of his family. He is survived by his wife Lisa of 29 years, and two daughters; Taylor Shaheen (Tony) and Madison Rogers. He is also survived by his mother Virginia Rogers, brothers Mark (Carol) Rogers, and Victor Rogers. Additionally, he is survived by his mother and father-in-law Dave and Judy Gansel, by his sisters and brother-in-laws; Richard and Karrie Workman and Ken and Christine Bowell, along with six special nephews.
Mike spent 17 years playing second base in the Canton Class A Baseball League. He made the All-Star Team in 3 different decades and played on 3 different League Championship teams. In 2001, he was inducted into the Stark County Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. Mike also spent many years as a baseball and wrestling coach for St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He passed on his love of athletics to his daughters and was an enthusiastic supporter of their sports.
Not only did Mike keep his family and friends laughing, but he took center stage acting in many productions with the Louisville Community Theatre and Canton Players Guild Theatre. He volunteered his time on holidays delivering food to the homeless and volunteered on behalf of the JBMF Charity. He never knew a stranger and treated all friends as family.
Mike was a member of First Friends Church in Canton, Ohio. He was employed by Coleman Professional Services.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, August 31 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. George Byzantine Catholic Cathedral (1121 44 th St. NE, Canton, OH 44714). Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 1st at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Byzantine Catholic Cathedral with Rev. Fr. Ovidiu Marginean with a luncheon following at 11:30 .
In lieu of flowers Mike requested that donations be made to Josette Beddell Memorial Foundation (P.O. Box 8497 Canton, Ohio 44711) in Mike's name.
