IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael J.
Romeo
September 14, 1951 – February 18, 2022
Michael J. Romeo passed away peacefully due to a short illness, February 18, 2022, at Northwest Medical Center Hospital in Oro Valley, AZ. He was born September 14, 1951 in Canton, Ohio, the son of Cateno and Evelyn (Turnides) Romeo. Michael was a graduate of North Canton Hoover High School, Class of 1969 and Edinboro State College with a B.S in Education, Class of 1973. Michael taught English at GlenOak West High School before becoming an executive sales employee at the Hoover Company. Michael then worked as an insurance appraiser for the Alex Sill company before starting his own appraisal management business, MJR Appraisals, Certified Public Claims Adjusters. Michael continued as Chief Operating Officer until he retired in 2017. He then moved to Arizona in 2020. Michael had two great loves in his life outside of his family and that was writing poetry and football. He was self-published with a book of beautiful, yet poignant poems in 1975 that was critically received; however, it was his football career that was exceptional. Michael played football in North Canton, Ohio for teams beginning with the East End Midget league, North Canton Jr. and Senior High Schools, Edinboro State College (Pa.), and both the semi-professional Youngstown Hardhats and the Canton Bulldogs, a total of over 25 years of football. His success at Edinboro State was quite significant; the team was the first undefeated team in Edinboro history while Michael was a senior. They went on to become the National Champions in their division eventually winning the Lambert Bowl in 1973. Michael was named All-Conference that very same year. Michael is survived by his brothers James and John, both of Marana, Arizona, Aunts Flora Anderson, Nina Bennett, Uncle, Leonard Bennett and Aunt Juanita Martin all of North Canton, Ohio.
