Obituary

Minos "Nick" Geniatakis, age 95 of Canton, passed away Tuesday evening. Born in Canton to the late Nicholas and Irene (Contzidakis) Geniatakis, he was preceded in death by brothers Jim, Gus, George, John, Tony and Paul, sisters Maria Paterakis, Helen Curlutu, and son-in-law Jordan Kalaitsides. Growing up, Nick was also known as "Peanuts." He was a 1941 graduate of Timken Vocational High School. Nick was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, Silver Liners and a union member at Republic Steel and the UFCW food union. He started working as a child delivering newspapers and shining shoes in downtown Canton for many Greek families. Nick retired from Republic Steel-Berger Division as a supervisor/plant manager in which he received many awards and accolades because of his many cost-saving production ideas which saved the plant millions of dollars. Nick then went to work for Acme-Click followed by Fisher Foods where he finished his work career until almost 90 years old. He enjoyed working at Fishers and had fond memories of many customers. He was a very proud Army veteran of WW II serving as a Sergeant in the 13 th Armored Division. Nick is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 75 years Angeline (Kreareas), As high school seniors, Nick met Angeline at Timken High when they bumped heads together upon picking up her books she had dropped. At that moment he announced to her "I'm going to marry you!" Also survived by his loving children who will miss him greatly, Bess (Myron) Fritz of Sacramento, CA, Irene Kalaitsides, Peter (Alexandra) Geniatakis, Stephanie (Bill) Withers, nine grandchildren; Ian Maney, Jennifer (Robyn) Fritz, Dustin (Bre) Fritz, Jordan P. (Maria) Kalaitsides, Alexander Kalaitsides, Alethea (Jason) Swiecicki, Demetrios (Jennifer) Geniatakis, Eftihia Geniatakis, Nicholas Withers, seven great-grandchildren; Alexander and Christian Maney, Jayden and Jorden Fritz, Lazarus and Soleil Swiecicki, Greyson Geniatakis, and numerous nieces and nephews. Our sincerest thank you to Dr. Louis Shaheen who took care of Nick for many years. Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 5 to 7 pm, Trisagion service at 6:00 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home and Monday from 10 to 11 am at church. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Monday at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Because of Nick's great love for his children and grandchildren, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the "St. Haralambos G.O.Y.A." to be used for children to attend church camps.
