IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nell L.
(Odgen) Fetzer
November 2, 1932 – September 16, 2024
Nell L. Fetzer of Copley, Ohio, formerly of Canton, Ohio. Born and raised in Orlando, Florida.
Nell went to the Lord on September 16, 2024. Preceded in death by her husband/best friend Dudley Fetzer, M.D.; her parents, R.L. Odgen and Pearl Burlison; and brother, Albert Odgen.
She is survived by her three loving children, Cynthia (Michael) Burke of Pepper Pike, Ohio, Julie (Randy) Gonzalez of Jackson Township, Ohio, and Dudley K. (Marlaine) Fetzer of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Jason and Christopher (Ashley) Bowman, Ross (Rachel) Bradley, Rachel and Dylan Fetzer, Laura Burke, (Jimmy Howell), Kelly (John) Perry and Kody (Jenny) Gonzalez; eight great-grandchildren; and many grand dogs and grand cats.
Nell graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Nursing with a B.S. in 1954. She also received her M.A. in Education Counseling and Guidance in 1973. The many facets of her career included being an instructor of nursing at many local programs in Canton, a respected clinical counselor, and developing the medical assistant program at the former Stark Technical College. In 1980 she developed and administered the first Hospice Pilot Program at the VNA of Canton.
When she and Dudley retired, they moved to Seabrook Island, SC. They loved the history of Charleston and were docents at the Aiken-rhett House, volunteering for many events including the Spoleto Festival and the Springtime in Charleston home and garden tours.
After the passing of Dudley, Nell moved back north in 2015. She spent the last 9 years at Concordia at Sumner in Copley, Ohio. Not one to be idle, she volunteered while there – the past 3 years she showcased her "green thumb" growing many plants from just a leaf and was an active member of their garden club.
Many described Nell as a loving, spunky woman who knew what she wanted and usually found a way to get it. She made many friends while at Concordia with the residents and the staff.
Anyone who knew her knew of her love for family as well as animals – real or one of the many stuffed ones who lived with her.
The family wishes to extend a special 'Thank you' for all the caring support and love provided by the community of Concordia of Sumner as well as the Copley/Fairlawn EMS, the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Bath Emergency Department, and Akron General ICU team.
There will be a Celebration of Life gathering at the Pavilion at Concordia at Sumner (Chestnut Chase, Copley) Friday, September 20th at 5 pm.
