Nick Codispoti age 101 of Canton, Ohio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at his home.
Nick was born in Sant' Andrea Apostolo dello Iono, Catanzaro, Italy on September 7, 1921 to the late Joseph and Victoria (Cosentino) Codispoti.
Nick immigrated to the United States on June 3, 1937 and attended Timken Vocational High School.
Nick, an Army veteran of WWII attended The Military Intelligence Training Center at Camp Ritchie Maryland. He served as an interpreter and interrogator in Africa, Italy, and France. At the Battle of the Bulge, he was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division, 38th Regiment, Company F, for campaigns in Rhineland Germany and Czechoslovakia. He was awarded the Bronze Star, three Battle ribbons, and other medals.
Nick was a tailor for over 40 years at Sears & Roebuck in downtown Canton and Belden Village where he retired in 1985. A trade he apprenticed for in Sant' Andrea, Italy.
Nick was a member of the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist, St. Andrea Society, Sons of Italy and enjoyed bowling, playing cards, dancing, traveling, socializing and walking faithfully each day rain or shine.
Nick married Caterina (Cathy) Gatto on June 2, 1964 after meeting her in Rome on one of his many vacations to Italy. Together they loved vacationing in Italy and later spent summers there enjoying friends and family after retiring.
Nick is survived by his sister Anna (Codispoti) McNally and many nieces/nephews, both great and great-great.
Nick was preceded in death by his loving wife Caterina, sister Teresa Medure and his infant twin brother Vincent.
Visitation for family and friends will be at the Rossi Family Funeral Home, 732 30th St. N.W. from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on Friday, February 17, 2023.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist: 627 McKinley Avenue NW, Canton, Ohio, 44703 on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 1:00 pm by the Very Reverend John E. Sheridan, STL-Rector.
Nick's last wish was to be cremated and his cremains taken to Sant' Andrea, Italy and interned with his beloved wife, Caterina, eternally "Together Again."
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in memory of Nick Codispoti to: St. John's Villa, 701 Crest St NW, Carrollton, Ohio, 44615 or Children International, 2000 East Red Bridge Road, Kansas City, Mo., 64121 where he sponsored a child.
