Obituary

Norma (Jean) Spotleson

Age 97

Norma (Jean) Spotleson, age 97, of N. Canton, passed away Friday, June 6, 2025. Jean was born on August 16, 1927, to Wesley and Ruby (Housley) Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Canton and devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, formerly St. Anthony's/All Saints Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter Suzi Spotleson, daughter Lisa (Spotleson) Baker and son-in-law Dennis Baker, grandchildren Michael Harmon, Kali Baker, and Kyle Baker (Sydney), sister-in-law Alice (Garcia) Spotleson, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Pat Spotleson and daughter Patricia Harmon, brothers and sisters-in-law Tony and Marie (Spotleson) Charley, Frank and Dolores (Garcia) Spotleson, and Joe Spotleson.

Jean is a graduate of Canton McKinley High School. She spent her working years as a homemaker raising her three daughters. Jean enjoyed gardening, reading, watching old movies, and baking cakes, cookies and pies, but her deviled eggs were always a family favorite. She was an avid Cleveland sports fan, spending countless hours rooting on the Cavaliers, and even in her final days the TV was regularly tuned to a Guardians baseball game. She also enjoyed attending her girls' many sporting events and later in life continued that love following her grandchildren as they competed in high school and college soccer.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Inn at Whitewood Village, Crossroads Hospice and Aultman's Compassionate Care Center. Special thanks and appreciation to her favorite aides Michelle and Jessica, nurses Trent, Josh, and Jenny, book club leader Carol, and stylist Marley for consistently treating our mother with kindness, patience, and compassion.

Per Jean's wishes, private services will be handled by the Rossi Funeral Home, immediately followed by entombment in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hiram Women's Soccer, where her granddaughter is currently a team member. Please make checks payable to Hiram College, with Women's Soccer in the memo line. Donations should be mailed to Lisa Baker, 34865 Clear Creek Dr, N. Ridgeville, OH, 44039, who will ensure delivery to the soccer program in Jean's name. You may also Venmo to @Lisa-Baker-114 with a note it is for Hiram Women's Soccer.
