Obituary

On March 8, 2018, Parthena Giamourides fell asleep peacefully with the Lord while at home and surrounded by beloved family and friends. Parthena was a woman of bravery and strength. She immigrated to the United States in the 1960s where she built a home and a family in Canton, OH. Despite the hardships she faced, she had an unmatched perseverance and unwavering hope for those around her. She was a committed mother of four and a provider for her children, as well as a devout Greek Orthodox woman. Her commitment to the church and her dedication to the less fortunate was unmatched. It was a commitment one is fortunate to witness once or twice in a lifetime. Parthena was a member of Holy Trinity, where she served as a role model to others in faith and in life. She understood her higher calling to the service of the others, and she fulfilled that calling through her God given talents in preparing food. She could be counted on to provide a meal to her friends and family, the less fortunate, or to her entire parish. She truly understood her higher purpose of serving the community, living out the light of Christ, and doing so through her daily vocation. Her great works of faith were honored through Holy Trinity's Ecclesiastical Award for faith, devotion, and service to the church, The Holy Trinity Service Award for years of faithful commitment to Service, and the St. Photios Award for loving and dedicated service to the Orthodox Christian Faith. She was a trusted confidant, an adviser, and offered bravery and courage when others could not find it in themselves. Most importantly, she united a community and a family. Parthena offered presence, faith, and love in every life she touched and it is the hope of all who knew her to carry on her legacy. She was preceded in death by her parents Panagioti and Kerasa (Pertsinides) Karasarides, husband Paul Giamourides, brothers Alexandros, Christos, Theodore "Ted", and Costantinos "Gus" Karasarides. Parthena is survived by her children Sandy (Maynard) Rains, Sherry (Rosario) Moscariello, Perikles Giamourides, Paula Nikki Giamourides, granddaughters Rosie Parthena and Nicole Parthena Rains, sister Sophia Georgiades of Greece and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Monday from 5 to 8 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home with Trisagion service to be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 am with calling hours one hour prior to services at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Dr. Daniel Rogich officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Rev. Dr. Daniel Rogich for all his love shown to Parthena and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Parthena's name may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
