Obituary

Phil Stern, 84, of Atwood Lake died Friday September 13, 2013 at home after a brief illness. He was born in Canton on July 28, 1929 to Karl and Nell Stern. Phil was raised by his step-mother Dr, Helen Brogden Stern. Phil attended Bellestone Elementary School. He graduated from McKinley High School in1947.After high school he attended a year of prep school at Wilbraham and Munson Academy in Massachusetts. Phil graduated with honors in history from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine in 1952. In 1954 he finished his masters at Columbia SIPA-School of International and Public Affairs in NYC. After schooling Phil entered the United States Army. He served in France from 1954 to 1956. He was the former CEO/President of the Stern and Mann Co. In addition to his parents Phil was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Liddy), son in law Kevin Gotschall and an infant brother Karl P. He is survived by his daughter Margaret Gotschall of Streetsboro, daughter Mary (Walter) Meneses of Bowling Green and son Timothy( Brenda) Stern

of Perry Twp. and nine grandchildren. Phil was a member of the downtown YMCA

for over 50 years. In 1984 he was the Commodore of the Atwood Yacht Club. He

ran in the Boston and New York Marathons. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Phil loved trains, sailing and the theater specially

Broadway shows. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Family and friends will be received Saturday October 5, 2013 from 11am to 2pm at Rossi Funeral Home

A private family burial will be in the columbarium at St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Canton Players Guild.
