Pietro D'Antonio, age 86, of Canton, Ohio, passed away at his home peacefully on Sunday, November 24, with his family by his side. Born March 20, 1927, in the Montenerodomo, Abruzzo, Italy, Pietro grew up farming with his family on the same land they had worked for generations. He survived the hardships of World War II, and after the death of his father, due to the German occupation, took responsibility for providing for his mother and siblings at the age of 17. Pietro married Melania D'Orazio on January 1, 1950, in Italy. In the 1960s Pietro moved his family to Ohio, where he worked for nearly 3 decades in manufacturing until his retirement from Diebold. He spent his last decades enriching the lives of family and friends worldwide. He touched all who knew him with his kindness, integrity, and generosity. Pietro was preceded in death by his parents, Francesco D'Antonio and Francesca Rossi; by his wife, Melania D'Orazio; and by his brother, Domenico. Pietro is survived by children and spouses: Francesca and Agostino Iberis of Massillon, Susan (Assunta) and Larry Ross of Louisville, Tony and Grace D'Antonio of Melbourne, Australia, Fernanda and John Shamanis of Huntersville, NC, Rosemary and Marcello Hunter of Potomac Falls, VA, and David D'Antonio of Columbus. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, sister and brothers: Concetta, Onorato, and Antonio of Adelaide, Australia, brothers-in-law Angelo, Mercurio, and Anthony D'Orazio, and sister-in-law, Mary Maricocchi all of Canton, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Rossi Funeral Home Friday evening, November 29 from 5:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Joseph's Catholic Church, 2427 W. Tuscawaras St, Canton, OH 44708, on Saturday, November 30 at 10:00 AM with Msgr. Frank A. Carfagna celebrant.
