Presvytera Panayiota "Bertha C. Shiepis," age 90 of Canton, passed peacefully Wednesday December 9th. She was born in Canton to the late Kyriacos and Haritine (Dikaios) Christu. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Mark Kounouzvelis. Bertha was a graduate of Timken Vocational High School. She was a lifelong member of the St. Haralambos and St. George Greek Orthodox churches, a member of Philoptochos, Daughters of Peneolope and Senior Citizens. She was the owner of Christu Bridals Inc., a family business, for over 50 years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years - Rev. Fr. Constantine G. Shiepis, and their 5 children: Haritina (Michael) Kakoules; Eleni (George) Manos; Dr. George (Shari) Shiepis, Rev. Dn. Dr. Kiriakos (Keric) (Melissa) Shiepis; Dena (John) Bahas. Her 14 grandchildren: Peter (Sarah) Kakoules, Alexandria (Jason) Chicateli, Nicholas George Kakoules; Panayiota Nanette (Christopher) Kounouzvelis-Williams, Mary Caliope and Anna Justine Manos; Despina and Hannah Shiepis; Kerissa Zoe and Costandinos Shiepis; Nichole, John, Alexander, Dimitri Bahas. Her 5 great grandchildren: Thaddeus and Maximus Kakoules, Athena and Theodore Chicatelli; Syemon Williams and Ariella Cleer.

Private funeral services will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Massillon, with Rev. Fr. Spyridon Kehayes, Constantine Valentasis, Nicholas Halkais and Rev. Dn. Dr. Kiriakos Shiepis officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.

Presvytera Panayiota spearheaded the interior renovation of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, including the hand painted icons and hand carved icon stand of St. George. Presvytera's heartfelt wishes were to complete this project. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the "Bertha C. Shiepis Iconography Memorial Fund."
