Raymond Francis Smith, age 99, passed away early Monday. Born in Canton to the late Frank A. and Helen (Hinderer) Smith, he was preceded in death by his brother Donald E. Underbrink and sister Janet L. Smith. Raymond leaves his wife of 73 years, Laura (Gennett) Smith, daughter Mary Jane Smith, and sister Marilyn H. Daniels. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Raymond was a Navy veteran, serving in WW II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from Union Metal Manufacturing Company and in his spare time was a skilled carpenter. He enjoyed family gatherings, attending car shows, evenings of music and dancing with his wife, and traveling many times cross-country in their RV's. A member of the Greatest Generation, Raymond was a man of integrity, who loved God, his family, and his country. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and neighbors.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Benson Okpara as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
