Obituary

Father Nicholas J. Mancini passed away on January 14, 2026. He was 79 years old and survived by his cousins, Dr. Robert Naples, Sr., of Warren Ohio, Dr. Joseph Willmitch, of Memphis, Tennessee, and Dr. Russell Morrison, of Canfield Ohio, and many other cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Josephine (Rosemond) Mancini.

Father Mancini was born August 13, 1946, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Anthony and Josephine (Rosemond) Mancini. He attended St. Anthony Parish, Youngstown. He attended the old St. Joseph School on West Rayen Ave., Youngstown Ursuline High School, and Youngstown State University.

Father Mancini entered Sacred Heart Seminary, and the University of the State of New York, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. He then entered Conway College where he earned his Master of Education Degree. From there he went to St. Francis Theological-Seminary in Loretto Pennsylvania, and Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, receiving his Master of Divinity Degree. Father also taught at Prospect Academy, in Frederick Maryland, and attended the University of Siena, Siena, Italy, for the study of the Sacred Liturgy and Liturgical Music.

Father was ordained to the priesthood on May 3, 1975, in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, Pennsylvania, by the Most Rev. James J. Hogan. After ordination, he taught at Bishop McCourt High School, Johnstown Pennsylvania, Bishop Carol High School in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, and then became principal at St. Clement's, in Johnstown Pennsylvania. He served as pastor in several parishes in the Altoona Johnstown diocese, He later was assigned as the Director of Pastoral Care Services at Garvey Manor Care Center, Bon Secour Medical Center, and Altoona General Hospital.

In 2000, Father Mancini returned to Ohio and was incardinated into the Diocese of Youngstown. He served at St. Paul Parish, on Superior Avenue in Canton, then was appointed Administrator of St. Joan of Arc Parish in Canton, and as well as Administrator of Assumption Parish, in Geneva, Ohio. Father was appointed Pastor of Saints Cyril Methodius, St. Stephen of Hungary Parish in Youngstown, and Sacred Heart Mary Parish, in Louisville Ohio, until his retirement.

He was also Spiritual Advisor, and member, of the Board of Directors for Living Bread Radio, in Canton. Father was State Chaplain for the Order of the Sons of Italy, Spiritual Assistant for the Secular Order of Franciscans. He served as Chaplain to the 4th degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Malone Assembly.

Family and friends will be received at St. Anthony of Padua Church (1125 Turin Ave., Youngstown, OH 44510) on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin in the church at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery (248 S Belle Vista Ave, Youngstown, OH 44509).
