Obituary

Robert R. Bernabei, also fondly known as “Corky” or “Bob”, age 89 of East Sparta, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026 of old age. He was born in Canton to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Shirey) Bernabei on March 31, 1937.

Robert retired from the Railroad. He found joy in many hobbies such as trap shooting, fishing, hunting, going to the casino, and taking care of animals. Robert took pride in tending to his yard, tomato plants, and making sure the flowers always looked beautiful. He would never complain, and was always kind, giving, and the most intelligent man we have ever known. He worked hard his entire life and loved his family more than words could express.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Richard Robert Bernabei; grandson David Michael Bernabei II; and brother Daniel “Butch” Bernabei.

Robert is survived by his sister Deborah Bernabei; children David (Julie) Bernabei, Steve Bernabei, and Angela Bernabei; grandchildren Brooke (Sergio) Meneses and Anthony (Caitlyn) Bernabei; great-grandsons Sawyer, Colt, and Cruz Meneses; and great-granddaughters Shiloh Meneses and Margaret Bernabei.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 2 to 7 p.m. at 2211 38th St. N.E. Canton, Ohio 44705.

The family would like to thank all of the beautiful people in his life. A special thank you to those who went out of their way to hang out with an “old man” when you did not have to – Poker buddies John, Ernie, Andy, and Bill. Also, thank you to Mark Rich, Fred and Cindy Fagan, Jane Bernabei, Brad McGuire, Sam and Hilda Lab, Bobby Baugus, Ron and Karen Bryan. Also, thanks to Jennifer Nam, Rachel, and Taylor at Advantage Hospice for for fast, kind, and compassionate care!

Dad, you will be missed – and so will your tomatoes and cooking! “No prob, Bob, we will take it from here!” Love, the Bernabei Children
