Roland Ray Mercer, age 73 of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. He was born in Massillon on July 5, 1945 to the late James and Helen Mercer. Roland was a Massillon Washington High School 1963 graduate, and after served in the U.S. Army. He then became a Supervisor at the Timken Company. Roland was a member of Dominion Kingdom Family Ministries, and loved Cleveland sports. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Roland is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; children Daniel Mercer, Emily (Shelton III) Tufts and Amy Mercer; grandchildren Andrew, Jordan, Taylor, Shelton IV and Roland. Also survived by brother James (Gay) Mercer; sisters-in-law Myrtle Wood and Frances Mae Brown; special cousin Maryann Welcher; and a host of nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at the Rossi Family Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 11 a.m., with Pastor Shelton Tufts III officiating. Interment will follow to Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
