Rose M. (Rossi) Basso age 96 of Massillon, passed away Thursday evening, August 11, 2016. Born in Montenerodomo, Italy to the late Domenico and Carmela (DiLullo) Rossi, she was also preceded in death by her sister Elaine Fernandez and brother Frank Carozzi. Rose was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Leonard A. Basso, sons Richard (Leila) Mercorelli of Bolivar, Eugene Mercorelli of East Canton, daughter Neena (Brian) Miller of Dalton, six grandchildren (Louie, Gina, Mike, Heather, Beth, and Nick) and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by special nephew Larry Fernandez (Janice). Grandma Rosie loved having family for Sunday dinner. Spaghetti and meatballs, ricotta cheesecake, and pizzelle were some of her specialties. When she wasn't in the kitchen, Rosie had a lifelong love of learning. After obtaining her GED at age 60, she pursued further education in real estate and general business. She was active in the Massillon Senior Center for many years. Rosie's biggest disappointment in life was NOT winning the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes! Most of all Rosie loved her family. We will miss her. Our family wishes to thank the very special staff at Meadow Wind Health Care Center for taking such good care of our mom and grandma. Being named Valentine's Queen of Meadow Wind could possibly have been mom's finest moment. We would also like to thank the staff at Harbor Light Hospice for their compassionate care.
