Obituary

Sam M. Spino, Sr. Age 96 of Canton passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025. Born in Canton to the late Saverio and Philomena (DeSantis) Spino, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Neva (Risaliti) Spino, brother Pat Spino, sisters Josephine Denayer, Lucy Gocek, Yolanda Torre and Cecelia Spitale.

He was a 1947 graduate of McKinley High School and an Army veteran. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish at St. Anthony Campus. Sam retired in 1991 from Wisler Plumbing and Heating after nearly 40 years of dedicated service. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus Council 4533, American Legion Post 44, Sons of Italy and was a 72-year member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 94. He frequented the Polish American Club every Wednesday where he enjoyed polka dances.

Sam is survived by his children Patrice (Tim) Natale, Sam (Teresa) Spino, Jr., Connie (Matt) Justyn, Bobby (Maria) Spino, his loving companion Anne McNulty, ten grandchildren; Nino (Tess) Natale, Marcello (Sylvia) Natale, Nicholas (Ashley) Justyn, John (fiancée Jaclyn) Justyn, Neva Natale, Angelica (Kristoffer) Gandrup-Marino, Luke and Mark Marino, Bobby Angelo Spino and Reno Spino, five great grandchildren, Zalia and Lilia Gandrup-Marino, Styles Justyn, Bianca and Isabella Natale.

Sam's Catholic faith was deep and guided his way throughout life. Towards the end he wasn't fearful of dying as he looked forward to being with his Lord and his loved ones who passed before him. His family was always by his side with his four children who all remained in Canton. He never missed a birthday, holiday or ball game and was always present in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sam had many friends who he adored and enjoyed spending time with. They could be found golfing, hanging out at the VFW, Akron Polish American Club and American Legion dancing to polkas. He was an avid Guardians and Cleveland Cavaliers fan.

The family extends their thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Canton Regency, Dr. James Johns, and Crossroads Hospice especially Holly and Brittany (Britt) for their compassionate care.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 22nd from 9:30-11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Parish at St. Anthony Campus with Rev. Fr. Frederick Schlueter celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
