Samuel "Sam" Cugliari, age 95 of North Canton, passed away early Monday morning. Born in Canton to the late Natale and Maria Theresa Cugliari, he was preceded in death by his wife Flora (Fonte) Cugliari, granddaughter Mandy Druckenbrod, brothers John and Dominick, sisters Mary Fay, Ann Cugliari and Connie Susana. Sam retired from Diamond Portland Cement Company in 1976 after 25 years of service. He was a former member of the North Canton Elks and Eagles. Sam was a founding member of the Amateur Sports Hall of Fame and the Old Timers Fastpitch Softball Association in 1978. He was inducted into the Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame and the Fumbleball Hall of Fame. Sam won the Golden Gloves Middleweight Championship and received numerous citations for his involvement in the Amateur Sports Hall of Fame. Sam is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Paula and Tim Piatt, Pamela Cugliari all of North Canton, Sally and Mike Murphy of Punta Gorda, FL, six grandchildren; Angela and Dave Ashbery, Allison Granito, Tim and Jennifer Piatt, Randi and Chris Brosch, Stephanie and Noah Rollins, Daniel Hill, ten great-grandchildren including Gracie (or pee-wee as he lovingly referred to her) who was the light of his life for the last two years and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at the Rossi Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Deacon Ron Reolfi officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Windsor Medical Center and Crossroads Hospice for their compassion and care of Sam.
