Samuel J. Stimer, age 92 of Canton, passed away on Sunday evening May 17 at Hospice Compassionate Care Center. He was born March 11, 1923 in Alliance to the late Samuel and Mary (Dicko) Stimer. He served his country during WWII in the United States Army with the 421 ^st Rocket Field Artillery Battalion in the Pacific. He retired from Republic Steel in 1983 after 42 years of service. Samuel is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, the former Genevieve Guidone whom he married May 8, 1948. He was the devoted father of daughters Elaine (Robert) Porter of Arlington, VA; Brenda (Roger) Cox of Akron, and Valerie Sinclair. He is the proud grandfather of Robert Porter of Arlington, VA; Andrew (LeeAnn) porter of Winchester, VA and Zachary (Rachel) Porter of Arlington, VA; Gregory (Andrea) Cox of Huston, TX; Emily Cox (Matt Proshka) of Chicago, IL; Spencer Sinclair of Kent, and Samuel Riley Sinclair. He found special delight in his great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Brandon Cox, and Vivian, Nathan, and Ramona Porter. He is also survived by his sisters Vera Kompara and Ann Stimer, and preceded in death by his brother Nick Stimer and his best friend and coworker Carrol W. Marshall. He was a great fan of Cleveland teams, The Ohio State, and Notre Dame. He enjoyed traveling across the states to his army reunions with his wife. Sam never had a bad word to say about anyone and had no enemies. He will be greatly missed. A heartfelt thanks to his nurse Jackie and the entire staff at Hospice Compassionate Care Center. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours. A private memorial for the immediate family will take place at a later date.
