Obituary

Sonia "Sunny" A. Zeen passed away early Saturday morning, September 27, 2025, at the age of 97. Sunny was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 31, 1928, to the late Albert and Norma (Kouri) Zeen. She graduated from Parma Schaaf High School where she served as the head majorette with the school's marching band.

Sunny was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Canton, Ohio, and Alpha Tau Epsilon Sorority. She had an artistic side that showed through her love of sketching and her ability to bead and sequin clothing and accessories.

Sunny enjoyed a variety of careers throughout her lifetime. She worked in hospitality and entertainment management, cosmetology (as a beautician and educator), and was a long-time legal assistant. She eventually went on to become the secretary at St. George Church, until she retired.

Sunny's life centered around her love of family. When her sister and best friend was widowed at a young age, Sunny became a second "mom" to her three nieces and took great pride in them and their families. She loved being an aunt and she adored her great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Sunny had a quick wit and great sense of humor. She influenced many who were fortunate to know her.

In addition to her parents, Sunny was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita "Kay" Shaheen and brother-in-law, George K. Shaheen; brother Samuel Zeen and nephew John Vega.

She is survived by her nieces Norma Vega, Georganne (Jim) Martin, and Sonia (Dave) Eisenbrei; great-nieces and nephews Tricia Vega (fiance' Anthony Bompiedi), Jonathan (Shawnda) Vega, Daniel (Carlie) Eisenbrei, and Laura (Adam) Oakerson; great-great-niece and nephews Alexander Vega, George and Paul Eisenbrei and Olivia Oakerson.

Private funeral services will be held at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, with The Very Rev. Fr. Michael Corbin officiating. Entombment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in memory of Sonia Zeen.
