Sonny Poulos passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2015 surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness. He was born January 24, 1933 and was preceded in death by his parents, Nick Poulos & Angeline (Pappas) Poulos. A lifetime resident of Canton, Sonny attended McKinley High School and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for National Life Insurance Company and later retired from the Stark County Engineer's Office. Those who knew Sonny remember him as a man who took pride in his Greek heritage and culture. He had a passion and zest for life that he shared with family and friends. He enjoyed working in the garden oasis he created on Cherry Street and warmly welcomed others for the Hall of Fame Fireworks and many other parties. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. He leaves behind the mother of his children, Marilyn Poulos, and his children – Nick (Mitra) Poulos, Chris Steele (the late Doug Steele), Steve Poulos, Elaina (Chris) Newlon and Athena (Mike) Kosich, sister Elaine Poulos and special sister, Paula (Lester) Macris. Sonny is also survived by nine grandchildren, Yannis and Kian Poulos, Eric (Marianna), Michael and Lauren Steele, Tyler and Alex Kosich and Sophia and Maria Newlon. He is also survived by nephew, George Carpenter, and nieces, Cindy Giavasis (Pete Glasser) and Catherine Carpenter. Per his wishes, there will be no calling hours; a private service for family will be held at the Rossi Funeral Home on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 1:00pm, Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. Haralambos Building Fund. His memory and love will live in our hearts forever.
